Warm Weather Pro Tips

If you're like us.. camping, hiking and other outdoor summer festivities are on your mind and of course these activities aren't complete without our 4 legged friends! Below are some of our best practices to make sure our dogs stay comfortable and safe during all of our activities.

1) Collapsable Water Bowl

You can pick one of these babies up at pretty much any local pet shop or even on Amazon. They are affordable and super convenient to pack along on hikes and other outings.

2) Dip those paws

One way we like to cool our dogs off on a hot day is to dip their paws! You can use your nifty collapsable water bowl for this purpose when you're on the go. Find some shade if possible then fill the bowl with H2O and offer your pup(s) a drink, when they are finished drinking you can dip each of their paws in the water for a few seconds to help cool them down. If you're at home you can also fill a kiddy pool and allow them to stand or lay in the water right in your backyard. Again - make sure to do this in the shade so the water stays cool!

3) Be aware of Flora & Fauna in your area

Spring & Summer are prime seasons for Flora & Fauna to come alive. Be diligent when you are out with your dog(s) and do your best to keep them away from wildlife as well as potentially poisonous plants. When planning a hike or a camping trip, educate yourself about the plants and animals native to the area. Try to make noise while you are hiking as this will alert any nearby wildlife of your approach which can prevent an unexpected run-in. Stay especially aware when hiking in areas prone to Rattlesnakes. If you hear a rattle, calmly leash your dog(s) and slowly back away from the sound. Most importantly make sure you know where the nearest Animal Hospital is incase of any emergencies.

4) Going for a simple walk?

If you're about to go for a sunny stroll with your pooch, remember to touch the pavement with your bare hand. Too hot? If it's too hot for you it's too hot for your dog's bare paws. Consider investing in some dog shoes for heat protection, again these can be found at your local pet store or online. If you're not in the mood to go shoe shopping, try adjusting your walk time for early morning or evening to make sure your dog has a comfortable and safe walk.
